Opportunities to celebrate cultural diversities

Art activities can promote creative thinking which is a great gateway into celebrating and exploring cultural events and diversity.

See the 'Culture and collage' page for some ideas of how to celebrate cultural diversity through collaging. Other ideas include:

-
Identity collages- children create a collage all about them, celebrating their personal identity, background and character. They can collect items from a holiday or from their home or from books and magazines that interest them or that they relate too.
-
Explore Christian churches and the stories they tell through stained glass windows and tissue paper window collages.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Arts have the opportunity to inspire all children's confidence and creativity including those with SEND. Art and collaging is a very sensory, hands-on practical experience that benefits children's holistic development and should be valued as a form of communication and self- expression.

Consider which children would benefit from:
-
video walkthroughs
-
art as a form of therapy
-
Audio descriptions
-
Adult support and guidance with tools in the less intrusive way possible
-
Using all senses and allowing opportunity to feel, see, hear all resources
-
Activities that encourage self-expression and relate to interests
-
Not expecting a 'perfect' outcome
